The Call Center: Philippines Making the Best of It
The Call Center: Philippines Making the Best of It
A call center in the Philippines is one of the best places to work for nowadays in the country because of its many advantages. The first advantage is the salary. The BPO industry in this country relatively pays more than other industries, especially for entry-level applicants who do not yet have any work experience in a call center. Philippines call center agents with years of experience behind them earn a lot more. The call center industry also rewards higher salaries to trainers, managers, and other staff. However, this high salary is lower than those earned in countries like the United States and Europe, which makes a call center in the Philippines cost much less.
Besides the obvious monetary gains, other benefits that call center management provide for their employees are HMO coverage, meal, and transportation allowance. Likewise, an advantage that working in a call center offers is the training it provides to the workers.
At first glance, you will not notice any differences between a call center agent and another employee in another field. However, when one digs in deeper, one will notice the difference.
1. The families of call center agents do not get to see them often as they work on night shift. They cannot be with their families at Christmastime, New Year, and other holidays because holidays do not necessarily mean that they would not get any calls. Strangely, they are sometimes mistaken by other family member and neighbors as boarders in their own homes. Many call center agents do not mind being away from their families at these gathering because they have learned to be flexible and are professionals.
2. Call center agents, as opposed to other workers in the corporate world, wear their t-shirts, jeans, and sneakers at the office. While the majority of the workforce in the corporate world wears slacks, shirts, and skirts, these people have the flexibility (luckily) to wear casual clothes while working. However, this does not mean that they lack the funds to purchase proper outfit, their job simply does not require them to be dressed to the nines.
3. They call a typical dinner their breakfast, and vice versa. This is because most of them work during nighttime and the result is a reversal of mealtimes. They do this to accommodate their mostly Western-based clients who are in a different time zone.
4. Inside a bus or a train, they're the ones nodding off to sleep at 9 in the morning because they have just got off their shift. While everyone else is alert and off to work, they're the ones trying to catch some sleep on the way home.
5. Happy hours for these people actually start at 9 AM. This is when their shifts usually end, and it is common nowadays for bars and restaurants to adjust their hours to accommodate people who are working in call centers.
Nowadays, a call center in the Philippines hires more people than in any other industry. Young graduates, established professionals, and those who just want to seek out greener pastures are just some of the people who are usually hired by a call center. Philippines call center agents, despite their unique and sometimes difficult situation, are professionals and have contributed greatly to the rise of the call center industry. That's why hiring a call center in the Philippines can really help your company. You save money and you don't have to train them yourself. What's a better deal than that?
