The Cargo Carrying Bikes Of Past And Present
Bicycles have long been mans assistant in doing the tasks that had to be done around the neighborhood
. Because of its cheap maintenance and the added capability to travel to places easier and more conveniently, its use has attracted many and is now popular in countries like the United Kingdom and France.
As time passed by, it was revolutionized to function more effectively in response to society's increasing demands. Thus, another type of bicycle had been made, which eventually became cargo carrying bikes. These bikes can carry loads and are ideal for use in delivering goods for business and collecting recycled goods, to name a few. Cargo bikes can also be used in the transportation of toddlers and pets.
The beginning of using cargo carrying bikes started in the nineteenth century. People felt the need to deliver goods, like mail, milk, and bread to the doorsteps of customers easier and with less hassle. The first cargo bikes were designed for business purposes.
Early models had three wheels. Designs included the Tinkham cycles and Racycle which has an adjustable gear. The latter one is a tadpole type of tricycle with an extended headtube and steers with handlebars. It also has a detachable cart. It became widely used by bakers who deliver their products through theses bikes.
Today, much improvement has been made on these bikes. Aside from it becoming two-wheeled, new designs have revolutionized them. Modern models like the Danish Kangaroo cargo type is suited to transport babies and toddlers and is also perfect for beginner cyclists. It presents low-riding handling with the cargo in front of the rider. This allows the guardian to watch over the kids while biking down the road.
There is also a model called Nihola, which is almost the same as the Kangaroo bike except for the form of the cargo. Also positioned in front of the driver, the cargo is box-shaped and has a wider space in it. Meanwhile, Christiana bike is another model of cargo carrying bikes which allows the accommodation of at most four kids in it.
In terms of business-used cargo bikes, truck-sized ones also began to arise on the scene. It has the capacity to carry loads weighing 180 kilograms. Businesses that make use of these as their mode for distributing goods to the customers can save up to 20% of the expenses because cargo carrying bikes need not be fueled with gas.
Cargo carrying bikes have evolved over time. Its use has extended from being business-based used to distribute goods to being a leisure transportation for people who want to take their children and pets for a ride around the neighborhood.
