Car theft is the most common enclosed auto transport scam. Here a company very slyly steals away your car. Internet has given a boost to such people. Since it is very simple to create a website online, people create fake auto shipping websites in the internet. Common people fall prey to these fake internet auction sites for transport. When your car does not arrive and you try to get in touch with the company, the website has been easily withdrawn and the contact number is not reachable. The best way to avoid this is by asking the company to let you talk to their previous clients. Also ensure that these companies are properly licensed and ask for copies of certification to prove that.
Public auto auction scams taking advantage of auto buyers are also pretty much a threat. In this scam, you are offered a car at a remarkably lower price than the actual market value. And when you accept the offer, you are simply told that car has a shipping facility but you are required to put in money in a fake account created by them before you can take the vehicle. The account obviously does not exist and even the vehicle for that matter. It is nothing but a nice looking website created by the so called auto seller himself.
Many such scammers also pounce on auto sellers. What they do is to offer an amount to pay for the vehicle with an additional amount for shipping price which the buyer is ready to provide. Then a cashier cheque comes in the name of the seller which he encashes. After 2-3 days, the so called buyer calls the seller and asks him that something urgent has popped up and payment to the shipping company needs to be done at the earliest. The seller who is unaware of the entire scam pays the shipping company over the selling price and never gets to hear from the buyer again. It is only after a fortnight that he discovers that the cheque never got cleared and he has been conned.
