The design of electric kettles in different ages

The Electric Kettle is top of the range if you are looking for a kettle that will do its job without fuss or hassle. The design of Kettles is endless and will suit any requirement. Extensive research has gone into making these Kettles, to make sure they are exactly what the customer wants.

The design of the kettle did not significantly change until the introduction of electricity. The first self-heating teakettles used a small oil burner under the main body of water, and were again often decorative items produced from copper and bronze, in some cases the kettles were plated with silver plate as a decorative feature.

The first electric kettle was developed by Crompton and Co in 1891. Based on earlier designs of self heating kettles and the tradition of heating water from below, the element was placed directly below the water in its own container. Unfortunately because the element was separate from the water the kettle took a long time to heat and it was also very expensive.

Improvements to the electric kettle came in 1919 when Allen Ford designed and patented the electrical kettle in a form that is very much the same as those produced today.

The kettle pictured in Figure 1 is from an advert for a copper kettle from 1907.

Swan started selling the patented electrical kettle in the 1920s, again the kettle was made from copper and later with the addition of nickel or silver plate.

In the 1930s chrome plated kettles began to appear, this was also the first time that aluminium kettles had been seen.

In Europe Electric Kettles have been in use for a hundred years. In 1909 AEG presented its first designed one by famous designer Peter Beherens, and design is still an important factor for manufacturers. In the United States it is sometimes called Hot Pot and has been increasing in popularity the last decades. The Cordless Electric Kettle is also popular when it come in the market.

They are a ideal kitchen appliance but also for apartments, dorms, and bars. They are perfect for coffee, tea, noodles and soups. Cordless electric kettles provides instant boiling water and the availability to remove the jug from the power base and serve anywhere is a main feature. This function rely adds to the appliance versatility. This appliance should be used whenever you need to bring water to a boil. Whether you are making spaghetti, mashed potatoes, soup or a stew on your stove-top, boiling up the water in a electric kettle first will greatly reduce the cooking time as well as your power bills. Most of these appliances features a signal light and automatic shut off and boil dry protection. A 360-degree swivel base allows for placing it back on its base from any angle.
