Take me for example, I get vertigo quite badly in real life, however it even worries me playing a computer game with a high up part, or watching a DVD with a scene when someones up high. I mean how does that work, what on earth am I scared about, it's just plain silly. Exactly the same thing happened to me when I was building up to yet another one of my quit smoking attempts. They scared me to death, a life without my smokes would be awful, terrible, unbearable - how do those other people survive! I know there is a very real fear of giving up, simply because I had it. I don't know why I finally managed to try and quit, I was quite famous for my non-attempts at stopping smoking. The announcement that I would stop on such a date, and then reality that I would conveniently find some reason why it wasn't suitable time. It was fear, nothing less than pure fear of my existence without cigarettes. Even now some 6 years after I smoked my final one I can still remember that fear, but I can also remember the relative ease of how I quit. There is a single battle you need to win to give up smoking, it's really all in the mind. The one thing you need to understand is that a cigarette gives you no pleasure whatsoever. Now I know if you're a smoker, you'll be disagreeing at this point, I know I would have been. There are lots of smokes that appear to give lots of pleasure, in the morning walking to work, in the car, after a nice meal or even with a drink. Well it's a con, a lie, a deception - whatever you think there is no real joy out of a cigarette merely a perception of joy. The reason is quite simple, but also cunningly deceptive, there is a perception of pleasure but this is purely based on the relief of withdrawal symptoms. Every smoker suffers these the whole of their life, the only single point you won't suffer them is when you are smoking. Therein lies the pleasure - the release from withdrawal symptoms, I can guarantee that is all. Please consider this point if you're contemplating a quit, you don't need anything to help you except understanding this concept. There is simply a small physical withdrawal to overcome which actually take only a few days, after that it's all in your mind. Your mind will keep reminding you of supposed pleasures, but they are just the same pleasure that a drug addict feels when he satisfies his craving.About the Author:
