One reason to use a water filter is to help our environment
. Most of us know that our tap water may not be 100% safe. For that reason many of us prefer to drink bottled water. But they may not be all it is cracked up to be. As a matter of fact the use of them is damaging to the environment, expensive and not as healthy as it is cracked up to be.
The regulations surrounding them are no where near as stiff as you may think. Actually more then 40% of them marketed here in America use filtered tap water. If you are already drinking filtered tap water why not just get a house filter of your own? Convenience?
The bottles that bottled waters are sold in often contain a chemical called phthalates. Phthalates are the substance that makes the plastic flexible. These chemicals are considered to be an environmental contaminate and act on the endocrine disrupters in humans and animals. They can leach into the water from the bottle. Not so convenient is it? That is not all though the water inside the bottle may not be safe either. It is a lot safer to use a house water filter system.
Most of us agree tap water is not really all that safe but did you know the regulations surrounding our municipal water suppliers is a lot more strict then the ones in the bottled water industry? As a matter of fact most of the water sold to use in bottles would not be allowed to come from our taps. 22% of bottled water brands tested had contaminates at levels way above state health limits. A house water filter can get rid of those contaminates and be trusted to be totally safe.
Bottled water is bad in other ways then just health concerns. It is expensive. Americans it seems drink 8.6 billion gallons of them a year. Bottled water costs around $10 per gallon. Plain old tap water costs around $.0015 a gallon and add the price of a house filter that gallon of tap water increases to about $.0020. Even if you buy bottled water by the gallon at the cheapest price of around $2 a gallon you are still looking at a huge difference in price here. A house water filter will save you a lot of money.
You know all those gallons of bottled water we drink? You ever wonder what happens to the empty bottles? Most people mistakenly assume those plastic bottles are recycled. The fact is only one bottle out of every four is ever recycled. The rest just make big mountains of trash that hangs around for about 100 years or so before it degrades. Not bad for a disposable item.
In summery a house water filter system, saves money, is healthier then other choices, and saves the environment.
