The Importance Of Google's First Page

As I do more and more research in Search Engine Optimization I'm finding out that

back linking is becoming more and more important, if not the most important part of getting ranked.

I totally misunderstood the importance of ranking on Google, but after a few days of observation it's obvious, content isn't that important. Consider your own search habits, when you're looking to buy something very rarely will you have to go past the 2nd or third page of Google, and in most cases you find it on the first page. If the site is good and you want t tell your friends, you email that link.

Being on that first page is how anyone makes money selling anything as an affiliate. I had the wrong philosophy before. For instance to be an affiliate marketer with Amazon I always assumed that you had to have a blog, and then post one of their banners on your blog and you would generate sales based on the odds that someone would come to your site and click on that banner. Now to us who have done this will little to know success know a few things, you can't drive enough traffic, you can't positions that banner correct enough to make squat.

People who make money from this do so by creating pages about a specific product, and then ranking these pages high on Google's 1st page, and then getting 4% off of every sale. In theory if you are selling a $100 item you will make an easy $4 bucks a sale. That can be very lucrative depending on the product and volumes of sales.

While this might seem like old news to some, it was an eye opener for myself. As a notorious blogger, I was not making any profit from my blog postings, although the material was great, relevant and posts were often. I was getting traffic but people were stopping by, reading my content, sometime leaving occasional messages but never clicking on anything. One blog has run for 4 years, gets 1000 hits per week and has only produced $42.00 to date.

In contrast, I have written one review about a niche product, got it ranked on page 2 of Google and in 2 months have made $60.00. Google page ranking is a much easier profitable route.
