The Infiniti G25 gets luxury right
The problem with luxury cars is sometimes they are too luxurious. Even at a Palm Beach used car dealer, Palm Beach used Infiniti vehicles can still have astronomically high price tags. Because of all the extra bells and whistles luxury automakers add to these Palm Beach used Infiniti vehicles, auto-companies are forced to charge high prices in order to recoup the additional funds it takes to add these items.
As competition grows between elite car companies, it seems as though more and more of these additional gadgets are being added to the list of standard features on base models in order to one-up the opposition. However, at the same time the base price tag on these vehicles is also being one-upped. In the end, these high prices are simply causing every Palm Beach used car dealer to stock up on over-built, hard-to-sell luxury vehicles.
Luxury automaker Infiniti, however, is taking a different approach. Rather than scaling up the base model of their G sedan class, they are actually scaling it down. Initially, this sounds counterintuitive if the competition is "bettering" their vehicles while Infiniti "downgrades" theirs, won't Infiniti lose out?
However, when considering Infiniti's argument, their logic starts to become quite insightful. Infiniti argues there is a market for consumers who value and desire luxury, but this consumer's definition of luxury does not simply mean the best of every gadget available. Instead, to this group luxury means comfortable interiors with a decent spread of modern technology, respectable capabilities under the hood, and classy curb appeal. This group also believes that luxury can be over done and that paying for bells and whistles that are deemed unnecessary is, well unnecessary.
And this is where Infiniti's new G25 sedan comes into play. This mid-sized sedan offers 218 horsepower thanks to its 2.5-liter V6 engine - an engine that is respectable, but nothing too outlandish. The exterior is classy and definitely implies a luxurious interior. This interior is plush too. Leather seats, power front seats, six-speaker stereo with XM capabilities, keyless start, automatic climate control and more make the interior of the G25 nothing to laugh about.
However, Infiniti intentionally left out key items considered "luxury basics" like a Sport package, Nav. System, and a manual transmission left out as in these features are not available on the G25 at any price. Thus, with the G25, Infiniti is offering the market a very nice vehicle priced in the low $30k range with a decent amount of comfort features, but not the whole nine yards. Infiniti feels most consumers will be adequately happy with the included features, especially at the listed price.
Infiniti argues consumers are more likely to spend $30k on a slightly less luxurious sedan, than thousands more for a bunch of features they don't really want. Infiniti's G37 sedan is the automaker's answer for what they believe to be is a slim market of people who are willing to pay for these extra items. The G37 includes all the must-haves that the industry has to offer.
So ultimately, between the G25 and the G37, Infiniti has all definitions of luxury covered. Can another luxury automaker say that?
