The Inspiration for Moses, God's Blessed Donkey by Todd Rutherford
Inspiration comes in many forms. The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines "inspiration" as "a divine influence or action on a person believed to qualify him or her to receive and communicate sacred revelation." When a work of art, song, or a story are inspired, it is evidenced by a singular uniqueness; it is somehow very special. Similarly, Ron Stock's Moses, God's Blessed Donkey arises from what appears to be divine inspiration.

Ron Stock possesses unique abilities that have contributed to his having worked with Fortune 500 companies, Avon Products, Baxter International, to name a few. Also, his love for Jesus and other sacred characters from the Bible have been with him since childhood. As a youngster, every summer Stock attended the local Baptist Vacation Bible School. It was there that he memorized and learned to recite all the books of the Bible. Moreover, the school got his creative juices flowing with activities such as coloring in Bible themed coloring books.
To this day, Stock remembers his two favorite colorings. He states, "Moses and the parting of the Red Sea and Jesus riding a donkey into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday were two of my coloring book drawings that got me gold stars from my Bible School teacher."
Whether it was coincidence or fate, it was one Christmas morning when it occurred to Ron that perhaps the donkey that carried Mary to Bethlehem was the same one that Jesus rode into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday.
Thus, Stock proposes the possibility that the donkey's purpose was to be present during each of Jesus' defining moments on earth, and in his book he names the donkey Moses. His desire to share this revelation to all Christians is paramount and is transparent in his storytelling approach. The quote that summarizes Ron's purpose is, "Sometimes in life, the most simple poem, song, or story has the greatest impact on our lives. We remember them and recall them when we need to be inspired or comforted."
Whether truth or fable, Moses, God's Blessed Donkey is as inspirational as it is delightful. A great book for young and old, it will spark new wonder in anyone who reads it with an open heart.
