The Latest Development on Waste Management

Waste can be generated in all sorts of ways

Waste can be generated in all sorts of ways. It is considered to be the end product of both natural and artificial processes such as manufacturing, chemical reactions, and even events in biochemical pathways. In the Philippines, about 1.3 Million tons per year of wastes are generated according to IMO report of 1995 and based on DENR (Department of Environment and Natural Resources) records about 6,700 tons are being generated in the National Capital Region alone every day but only approximately 10% are being recycled or composted. The remaining 90% goes straight to dump sites, rivers, streets and backyards. This is the reason why waste management has been considered to be one of the major problems in the country for many years now.

An excellent solution which Philippine government officials thought of is the use of the latest development in Eco Technology, the Biosphere Process. It is a gasification process wherein it can convert wastes into green energy using an environmental friendly process. The technology is an invention of Dr. Christopher McCormack, the Chairman and CEO of Global Environmental Energy Corporation (GEECF).

Wastes that can be converted into green energy using the technology includes municipal solid waste, agricultural waste, forestry surpluses or wastes, industrial waste, medical waste materials, traditional fossil fuels and other wastes materials. And aside from the green energy that it can generate, it also produces pozzolanic ash, high-alloy steel wire, carbon black and gallons of distilled water.

Through the initiatives of Spectrum Blue Steel Corporation (SBSC) together with True Green Energy Group (TGEG), the Biosphere Process is now ongoing deployment in various cities and municipalities of the Philippines including the City of San Fernando Pampanga, where the first biosphere facility in the country would be located. SBSC is an environmental company that has an exclusive license to sell, lease, market, install, and operate the Biosphere Process in the Philippines. The company believes that trash can be used onwards to sustainability and cleaner environment through this revolutionary breakthrough on waste management.
