It has a compact form factor so it can be placed even on a desktop and still leave room for a lot of other things. Other than being a reliable piece of office equipment, it's also suitable for home installation. Hooking up to a computer is trouble-free because there are a couple of connectivity choices around: a USB and an IEEE-1284 parallel port.

A resolution of up to 600 x 600 dots per inch makes it possible to achieve professional-looking documents each time especially when using Lexmark toner. Texts look sharp and clean, while grayscale images don't end up muddy. Ordinary bond paper, labels, transparencies, cards and envelopes are the media types supported. Compatible media sizes on the M410 vary, just as long as they're within the range of 5 inches x 3 inches to 14 inches x 8.5 inches.

Making sure that the output requirements of the workplace are met, no matter how busy it gets, is the large input media capacity. It comes with a standard handling capacity of 370 sheets. This is possible, thanks to the multipurpose feeder (20 sheets), and another pair of media trays (100 and 250 sheets). Optional media feeders may be purchased and installed to achieve a media handling and Lexmark cartridges capacity of 870 sheets.

There's a 4MB memory installed upon purchase. However, thanks to the pair of DIMM (100-pin) slots, the memory can be easily expanded up to 132MB. It's also possible to attach a 2.1GB hard disk to the machine, for a much larger capacity (the hard disk and adapter needed are sold separately). There are a number of printer languages included such as PostScript 3, PCL 6 and Adobe PPDS. Typefaces available are: 5 bitmapped, 39 vector, 86 PCL and 89 PostScript.

Minimizing compatibility issues is its support for various computer operating systems. The included MarkVision software allows the user to manage the machine's use much more effectively. Lexmark has set the monthly duty volume at 20000 pages. One can enjoy excellent printer performance and consumables usage if this figure can be maintained.
