The Life Of A Mold

As absurd as it may sound, there are times when you would also need to wash you washing machine

. This is because, left to its own devices, your washing machine can be a breeding ground for mold and mildew.

Under the microscope, mold would look like a big bunch of roots and branches. This type of fungi actually float about everywhere around us. Once they land on to something, your problems would begin. If the place where they landed on is dry, you dont have to worry about anything as the lack of moisture would kill them. The real problem starts when they land on something wet such as your washing machine.

Mold spores that land on a wet surface and starts growing can not only destroy your washing machine in the same way a rust does, but can also pose a number of health threats to your family. For one, when mold combines with certain organic materials, they can produce toxins that could be deadly to a human being. Aside from that, molds can also cause a person to have rhinitis and pneumonitis. There are also several deadly lung disorders that take their roots from molds.

Oftentimes, mold formation in your washing machine can go unnoticed for a long time. The only time you would realize that there is something wrong is with the change in your front load washer smell. This smell is usually musty in nature and would be comparable to the smell of wood left in water for a long time. If this is the case, then you need to work on cleaning your washer.

The first thing that you need to do is to ensure that there is no moisture in your washing machine. Doors of front load washers usually shut tightly in order to prevent water leaks. Since this is the case, you would need to wipe it dry or air dry the tub before closing it. Bear in mind that washing machine mold cannot exist where there is no moisture.

You might also want to improve your front load washer smell by running a cycle of hot water with either lemon juice or baking soda in it. This mixture would take away the musty smell on your washing machine.
