The Liposuction Techniques Used By Plastic Surgeons To Remove Fat Cells
Liposuction is quite a common procedure used by cosmetic surgeon to remove unwanted fat deposits from patients' bodies. The body areas on which, liposuction is performed are:
Abdomen
Buttocks
Thighs
Back
Chin
Male breasts
several liposuction techniques are used by surgeons also with the addition of many new techniques. The basic method of performing liposuction involves using a cannula and an aspirator. The cannula is as a straw through which the aspirator works as a suction device, draws out the fluid. The liposuction techniques are:
Dry liposuction: In this technique, no fluid is injected to loosen the fatty tissues, and has been discarded nowadays. Wet liposuction: A small amount of fluid, normally less than the fat that's to be removed, is injected in the area. The fluid contains a local anesthesia, adrenaline to contract the blood vessels, and a saline solution to soften the fat cells. Once the fluid cells become soft and liquid, they are sucked out.
Super wet liposuction: This technique is used where a large deposit of fat is to be removed. The fluid injected is equal in volume to the fat that's to be removed. This is the preferred technique used by plastic surgeons. Tumescent liposuction: In this technique, a large volume of solution is injected directly into the fatty deposits. Injecting large volumes of local anesthesia can cause complications.
Laser assisted liposuction: In this technique, a large amount of fluid is injected in the fat; photomechanical and thermal energy is then used to loosen the fat cells and are then removed. This technique is still being debated among cosmetic surgeons. Suction assisted liposuction: In this technique, the surgeon inserts a small cannula and pushes it forwards and backwards to break up the fat, which is then sucked out.
Ultra-sound assisted liposuction: In this procedure, an ultra sound wave is used to break up and loosen the fat cells and it's then drawn out. This is the common technique used to remove fat from male breasts. Initial use of this procedure caused damage to the surrounding area, but it has been improved over the preceding years.
Twin cannula assisted liposuction: In this procedure there is a cannula within a cannula, which reciprocates to loosen the fat tissues and doesn't require the surgeon to push the cannula back and forth to loosen the fat cells. External ultrasound assisted liposuction: In this technique, the ultrasound rays are applied over the area from where the fat is to be removed, and is not inserted inside the body. This technique prevents any damage occurring to the tissues and skin.
Water assisted liposuction: This is a new technique that's being tested. In this technique, water is injected and sucked out continuously, and the water helps to loosen the fat cells and no other solution is added to it. These are the current techniques used by cosmetic surgeons to perform liposuction. Some of the techniques are performed using local anesthesia, and in others, patients are administered with general anesthesia.
