The Miracles In Our Lives by:Amy Twain

Usually, we call an event a miracle when we think it is impossible for something to happen

, right here and now. Miracles start to happen when we stop being apathetic or indifferent. Like anything or everything else, miracles also come in different and various sizes, some large and some small, but they are still miracles. Consequently, a miracle is not only some unexplained, supernatural circumstance. They could actually originate from you and me. Don't you think that any miracle can happen when you decide to finally volunteer your time to the local library? Be kinder or nicer to your spouse? Give some money to the beggar and spend some more quality time with your beloved children? Visit an elderly and lonely neighbor? How about giving a warm smile to a stranger? A miracle can also occur whenever a person hears his call of her or his life, pays attention to and acts on it.

Like many nights ago, I watched Oprah Winfrey's Leadership Academy for Girls. The show was about Oprah's concept in building a prestigious school for female South African teenagers who possess the attitude, quality and potential to be leaders. All those girls featured on Oprah's show came from poor neighborhoods. Besides, all have experienced very difficult and harsh circumstance despite their young age: impoverishment, loss of parents and close relatives, and abandonment and many others. The school opened early last January of last year 2007. But as I continue watching the show, what really struck me the most was the girls' spirit.

They all show determination not just to survive from their dire circumstances but also succeed and excel. They were all looking up for a brighter future, hoping and working towards a better life than the one their parents or ancestors had. When I think about it and the more I think about it, Oprah Winfrey's project to build a school for those girls that she has never even met before is a plain miracle for me. And how can these bright, hopeful and promising young teenage girls quit their world of poverty and quagmire and instead pursue a whole new road of high standing education without a miracle? And how could they even afford such schooling? Guess whatnot only do they got the education but they didn't have to pay a single cent for it eithernow that is what I call a miracle indeed! But just as a miracle can come from a simple human, they could as well originate form God-- that is when no person is involved in the achievement of the miracle.

Do not wait for a miracle to occur or to change or transform your life. Allow yourself to be a part of it. If ever you hear that call, answer it. Don't shut it downit is a soft yet vivid and steadfast voice in your mind waiting for a response. Right now a patient has cancer, tomorrow he is healed, totally cancer-free. How and why? No one really knows but it is a fact that the patient is now completely healed.
