The New 2010 Dodge Challenger 6.1-liter Srt Hemi V8 Engine

The latest in engine innovation from Dodge is the 6.1-liter SRT Hemi V8

, which will be the premiere engine option for the 2010 Dodge Challenger. This new Hemi engine has the most horsepower of any naturally aspirated engine ever offered in the Challenger, past or present. It produces a monstrous 425 horsepower and 420lb-ft of torque. This additional power comes thanks to redesigned cylinder heads, high-flow intake and exhaust systems, and aggressive camshaft profiles. Other changes made to the 6.1-liter SRT include an increased compression ratio of 10.3:1, and a reinforced valve train, which allows the engine to perform at a higher RPM.

Although the new 6.1-liter V8 is the most powerful engine offered by Dodge, every engine option for the 2010 Challenger has increased horsepower. There is a second V8 option for 2010, the 5.7-liter Hemi V8. This engine option comes from the factory with 372 horsepower and 400lb-ft of torque. It is also surprisingly fuel-efficient, due in part to its variable camshaft timing and its Multi-Displacement System. It also features a dual ignition system, meaning it has two sparkplugs for every engine cylinder. Most conventional V8 engines have only one sparkplug per cylinder, but the dual ignition system on the Dodge 5.7-liter V8 significantly improves both power and efficiency.

The third engine option for the 2010 Challenger is the 3.5-liter V6. Don't let its size fool youthis engine is still a powerful little brute. It produces 250 horsepower, 250lb-ft of torque. This puts the V6 Challenger 40 horsepower ahead of the Ford Mustang V6, even though it is smaller than the Ford V6. The 3.5-liter V6 also features a dual-tuned intake manifold, an overhead camshaft, and an electronic throttle control system. Not only is it powerful, but the 3.5-liter V6 also gets an estimated 25 mpg for highway mileage.
