The New Anti-smoking Drug: A Solution For Not Smoking
If you're on any type of medication, you know that the world of medicine is constantly evolving and changing
. New drugs come out onto the market in trials, and before you know it, they are available over the counter. If you're taking prescription medication, you might want to use an electronic medication schedule to help you keep track of what you need to take and when you need to take it. No matter how many different prescriptions you're on, a schedule can be extremely helpful for anyone who has to take medicine on the go.
Medications these days aren't just for people with stereotypical illnesses. People who have trouble sleeping can take prescription medications that help them get a full night's sleep every night. People can also take prescription medicine to help them kick the habit of smoking. Called Chantix in the United States and Champix in Europe, Varencline is a prescription medication used to reduce cravings and help smokers reach eventual cessation of smoking. It stops the brain from feeling the pleasant effects associated with nicotine consumption.
The Food and Drug Administration has approved this drug for 12 week use by patients who are attempting to kick the smoking habit. You may be able to continue the medication for another 12 weeks if you have not kicked your smoking habit by the end of the prescription. Doctors generally start you on a low dose and increase it as needed throughout the course of treatment. It's important to let your doctor know what medications you are already on in order for your doctor to adjust your dosage in accordance with Chantix. Chantix should only be used if you have exercised every other option to stop smoking. This may include quitting cold turkey, quitting gradually, trying nicotine gum, electronic cigarettes, or every the nicotine patch.
Like every medication, there are always side effects that may be related with taking a new medication. Some of the side effects of Chantix are vomiting, nausea, gas, insomnia, drowsiness, strange or unusual dreams, headaches, and a change with your taste buds. If more serious side effects occur, such as rashes or difficulty breathing, you should contact your doctor immediately. The drug was released in 2006, and in 2007, it was reported that Chantix caused people to have serious changes in mood or behavior as well as suicidal thoughts or actions.
If you experience any change of mood or behavior as a result of taking Chantix, you should report these things to your doctor immediately. While it is still being evaluated by the FDA, Chantix has a black box warning, which means it has a warning to patients that it may cause serious adverse side effects. If you don't have an issue with taking Chantix it can be a great tool to use to quit smoking. Talk to your doctor if you're interested in more information about this anti-smoking treatment. You can also talk to your doctor about making a medication schedule to remember when to take your medication.
