The New Blackberry Torch 9800-Available Soon
After their unsuccessful attempts at a touch screen handset with the Blackberry Bold
, RIM are hoping there latest attempt will be more of a success.
The Blackberry Torch 9800 offers a capacitive touchscreen, whilst maintaining the functionality of a keypad by including a slide out Qwerty offering underneath the screen. For seasoned Blackberry users, one of the main attractions with this latest model will be the new version 6.0 operating system that it comes with. The first handset to offer this out of the box, the Torch benefits from some of the excellent improvements that it offers. Exact details of the new version are still unclear, but we do know that it boasts a brand new web browser. The new webkit based browser offers a more user friendly experience, and the same webkit framework is used for the new e mailing system. These changes will be welcomed by people frustrated at the browsing on previous models. RIM have also acknowledged the Social Networking boom by allowing the phone to group together sites such as Facebook and Twitter alongside RSS feeds in one view. This new feature is very impressive and saves time skipping from one site to another to retrieve information. Menu layouts have seen some changes, with a big reduction of sub menus and clearer icons with lest text visible. A new universal search facility allows you to find absolutely anything on the phone by starting to type in the details on the homescreen. This is not only handy for contacts, but also for applications, notes and music.
Messaging facilities have always been a major plus point with RIM handsets, and the
Blackberry Torch maintains this high standard. All Blackberry users can message for free between one another via the BBM instant messaging service, a great feature which looks set to grow along with the popularity of the handsets. The Qwerty keypad that slides out beneath the phones screen is as excellent as ever, however for quick messages or convenience you can utilise one of the three options offered on screen. 3G connectivity means that even whilst on the go, you can instantly be kept up to date with e mails, and thanks to the unified inbox also with messages received on sites such as Twitter and SMS text messages as well. If you stray out of 3G range then the phone supports quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, and it also offers WiFi for the ultimate experience whilst at home. The Blackberry Torch 9800 offers a functional and extremely efficient handset, boosted by a stylish look and a touch screen that bring it more in line with what many rival manufacturers are currently offering.
The Blackberry Torch and the
Motorola Milestone 2 are coming soon.
