The New Chairman Of The International Aluminium Institute Is Announced

The International Aluminium Institute (IAI) has revealed its decision to appoint the chief executive officer of Alumina Limited as its new chairman.

John Bevan was given the new chairmans position at the IAIs 81 board of directors meeting that took place in Abu Dhabi earlier last month.

The new appointment has coincided with the 17th World Aluminium Conference, which has been arranged by the CRU Group and is being hosted by Emirates Aluminium.

Mr Bevan replaces the outgoing chairman, Svein Richard Brandtzg, president and chief executive of Hydro.

The new chairman stated that he was excited about the challenge and was very much looking forward to steering the IAI through what is a very exciting time for the aluminium industry.

"It is a great honour and privilege for me to take on the role of IAI chair, to continue the work of Svein Richard and to have the opportunity to work with my industry peers and colleagues in advancing the Institute and the industry over the next two years," he said.

He further added that the IAI was fully behind efforts aimed at solving the global issues faced by the aluminium industry.

"We will continue to focus on the challenges for the industry and to build on opportunities to advance further aluminiums role in improving quality of life for the global community, through its myriad applications and unique properties," he stated.

Mr Bevan went on to explain that the industry is seeing increases in demand for lightweight, strong, safe and energy-efficient aluminium products across all market sectors.

The World Aluminium Conference offers a wide selection of leading lights from the aluminium industry and over 300 delegates in attendance.

The main topics up for discussion are those that include the economic, logistic and energy

challenges the industry is facing.

These challenges include the impact of austerity measures taken in Europe on the demand for aluminium, whether or not inflationary issues in China and India will lead to monetary tightening and projections for the future growth of the aluminium industry throughout 2012.

Furthermore, in the UK, aluminium is widely used in a range of different products such as transport, packaging, electronics, healthcare and construction.
