, business user handsets, have unveiled the new 9105 Pearl 3G, a smaller, more compact handset designed to be more of an entry level phone within their range.

One thing that does seem to standout on Blackberry handsets is the little touches included, designed to make using the phone a much easier and pleasant experience. Acknowledgement to the fact that many modern day handsets are much more than just a phone, a handy media button has been fitted on top of the unit, making access to audio files a much easier job than accessing various functions via the menu system. The fact that there is only 256MB of onboard memory is offset by the addition of a microSD card slot, allowing expansion upto 32GB. The onboard memory is ample if the handset is just being used as a phone, and the additional card should only be needed for multimedia usage. Another button on the side of the handset can be customised by the user. Although this comes preset to activate voice commands, it can be assigned to a function of your choice. Little touches such as these make such phones a joy to use.

A 3.2 mega pixel snapper is built into the device, and the addition of an autofocus means clear and crisp shots can be captured at any moment. A 2.5 x digital zoom is also incorporated as is a flash facility, perfect for capturing moments in poorer lighting conditions. The handset is also capable of capturing video footage. The 9105 Pearl 3G uses Blackberry operating system version 5.0, making operation of the phone very similar to that on the "Bold". It also means that users have access to the excellent "App World", allowing for the download of various applications. Also Blackberry Messenger is included, meaning you can stay in touch with other Blackberry users anywhere in the world for free, the phone will even let you know when your message has been delivered and read.

Perhaps the most strange thing about this phone is the fact that it does not incorporate a full QWERTY keypad, opting for the more traditional alphanumeric version instead. Although this decreases on the overall size of the unit, it does not hinder the typing of messages, thanks to the predictive text system and Blackberrys own "SmartType" function, which remembers the words you use most frequently.

The Blackberry 9105 Pearl 3G is a compact and functional handset that will appeal to people wanting to upgrade their phone, but perhaps not wanting the full smartphone experience. It is incredibly user friendly and the excellent connectivity make the phone a very appealing one.
