The new Nokia C7 offer similar functionality to the flagship N8 model, with a slightly less impressive camera facility and the lack of an HDMI socket.

However, for a mid range smartphone, this new model still boasts a specification that many of its competitors would be proud of. To look at both the C7 and N8 side by side, the differences are striking. Whereas the N8 has many straight edges and an almost industrial look, the new C7 is much more subtle. The edges are replaced by curves, and the metallic finish makes the phone both desirable as well as durable. This eye catching and simple design, together with the various colour option available look set to make this phone a winner with the ladies. Unlike the N8, this handset actually look like a more traditional mobile phone. The old fashioned green and red call and end buttons are found beneath the screen, and at 10.5mm in depth, it almost takes on a retro look, the kind of size of phones before cameras and huge processors were added to the equation. Despite this, this model is an able and very impressive smartphone. The screen looks superb, with excellent colour reproduction thanks to the 16 million it is capable of processing. At 360 x 640 resolution, images look clear and web pages, even when zoomed in do not lose much of their detail. The screen makes the most of the AMOLED technology it employs, producing superb viewing angles and a great depth of colours. Measuring 3.5", the display also supports multi touch, meaning the favoured pinch and zoom method is present. The great clarity offered by the screen lends itself perfectly to displaying the operating systems homescreens, which can be customised to include numerous colourful widget and applications, as well as RSS feed to keep you constantly updated with news that is relevant to you.

The camera facility on the Nokia C7, despite being inferior to the high end Nokia N8, is still superb, and an improvement on both predecessors and competitors. With regards to still shots, users benefit from an excellent 8 million pixel quality. Snaps can be geo tagged, meaning location details of every photo you take can be stored on the handset. The process of actually taking a picture is helped by useful features such as face detection and a good quality dual LED flash. Budding film makers will appreciate the video facility, which offers high quality footage shot at 720 progressively scanned lines, or in more simple terms, High Definition. Its easy to upload your photos or footage to various sites thanks to the excellent data transfer speeds offered by both WiFi, or if you are on the move, 3G. And even if neither of these connections can be achievable, EDGE and GPRS mean you should always have a connection. Rather than being an understudy to the excellent N8, the Nokia C7 steals the show in its own right thanks to a modern yet traditional design and some truly remarkable features for a mid range mobile phone.
