The name HTC has long been associated with high quality, high end smartphones. With the new Wildfire, we see a slight change in direction, the target this time, the lucrative mid range smartphone market.

One of the main attractions of nearly every HTC handset is the excellent Sense user interface. This is HTC's own skin for their Android handsets which aim to make the whole user experience more enjoyable. Many of the Sense features found on previous handsets are once again present here. Others have been omitted, such as the active wallpapers. This is not missed to much however, and its absence does allow the relatively small 528Mhz processor to perform at its maximum capacity. The excellent Friendstream function is present, and this should prove a major boost considering the teen market that this phone is partially aimed at. What this function does is collaborate information from your Facebook and Twitter accounts and present them both together on the same screen. This saves the user time as it is now not necessary to log into each individual application, and what more, you can update your status to both accounts at the same time by using this function. Sense also integrates your contact list with information from social networking sites, thus when you receive a call, not only is the caller information displayed, but also their current status, birthday etc.

The HTC Wildfire boasts all of the necessary connectivity features that enable features such as Friendstream to work effectively. The thing that really stands out is the phones Wireless LAN facilities, enabling users to connect to a WiFi network in order to benefit from fast web browsing and excellent data exchange speeds. The obvious use for this would be to connect to a personal or business router, but with more and more public venues offering free WiFi, it is a system that could see much more use in the future. Where WiFi is not achievable, typically whilst on the move, user can take advantage of 3G coverage, the fastest mobile connection method. Locally, the phone features Bluetooth 2.1 and also a micro USB or data transfer to and from a home computer. A 3.5mm headphone jack enables a wide array of headphones to be used in conjunction with the Wildfire, whilst the RDS FM tuner offers an alternative to personal audio files, especially for items such as news and travel reports. The HTC Wildfire, despite being lower specification than many of the manufacturers handsets, benefits from the excellent Sense UI and the always great HTC build quality, resulting in an impressive smartphone that will not break the bank.
