New Zealand is in the Southern Pacific Ocean and the first habitable country in the world to see the sun. It is approximately 1550 km East of Australia. The Name,"New Zealand" originates from a small dutch town and was named so, after a dutchman was comissioned to map the country. The native name for the Country is know as Aotearoa and in Maori this translates to, "The Land of the Long White Cloud".

Mountain ranges along with hill country and bush dominate the landscape, coupled with pristine beaches and blue waters. The country has 3 main islands really. The North, The South and the not so well know Island (outside of Australasia) of Stewart Island. There are other island collections too, which are even less well known outside of the pacific, such as the Chatham Islands. These are located East of Christchurch and this is where the Ori Mori used to live (arguably considered the original settlers)

Maori descend from polynesian shores and began arriving in Aoteroaaround the 10th century. Although white european settlers visited New Zealand in the late 1700's it was not until the early to mid 1800's that white european settlers began to call New zealand their home. Eventually, european settlers and Maorichiefs decided to a national declaration, to provide a common type law among all New Zealanders. This is the most important document in NZ's history (some would argue not) andis known as the, "Treaty of Waitangi"

Highest point: Mount Cook 3,754 m

Deepest lake: Lake Hauroko 462 m

Largest glacier: Tasman Glacier 29 km

Largest lake: Lake Taupo 606 km

Longest river: Waikato River 425 km

Length of coastline: 15,811 km

In terms of economy New Zealand really does depend on exports quite heavily. Traditionally countries such as the United Kingdom have been major export destinations and this has always been mainly for meat and dairy,although diversification is becoming more apparent and food processing technologies, plastics, textiles and the like are seenmore and more in the export economy.In actual fact Aotearoa is considered to be a world leader in food processing technology and engineering.
