The Nokia X5 Makes Heads Turn With Its Unusual Design And Dazzling Colors
The Nokia Connection event held in Singapore saw the launch of the newest addition to the X smartphone series, the music-centred X5-01
. The Nokia X5-01 has an unusual design and is directed at young consumers with limited budgets and cant afford high-end touchscreen handsets.
Imaging and performance
The X5-01 is almost square-shaped and is designed with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard which looks somewhat like Nokias E-Series business smartphones. The X5-01 is equipped with a 5 megapixel digital camera boasting 2592 x 1944 pixels image resolution. The camera includes an LED flash and can record VGA-quality video at 12 frames per second.
The X5-01 runs a Symbian Operating System 9.3 with a Series 60 v3.2 User Interface riding on top, and powered by 600 MHz ARM 11 mobile processor. Images and videos come out sharp and vibrant on the phones 2.36-inch TFT screen with 256K colours running at 320 x 240 pixels resolution. The X5-01 measures 74.3 x 66.4 x 16.8 mm and weighs in 129 g.
Connectivity and social network integration
The Nokia X5-01 ships with a 200 MB onboard internal memory thats expandable up to 32 GB. A 2 GB microSD memory card already comes bundled with the phone. The handset includes a one-of-a-kind shake and spin feature. Spinning the handset shuffles the music tracks whilst shaking the phone lightly brings up a view of all unread messages.
The X5-01 has both Class 32 EDGE and GPRS network connectivity, along with 2G GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 and 3G HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100 as well as HSDPA 900 / 1900 / 2100 networks. The X5-01 has dedicated apps for messaging services and has tight integration with popular social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter and MySpace.
The Nokia X5-01 provides further connectivity through Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g for wireless internet access and Bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP to transfer data to and from other compatible devices. The built-in v2.0 microUSB slot allows the phone to be connected to a personal computer.
Mobile entertainment
Business persons can get their work done even whilst on the go through the handsets Office functionality which includes an Organizer, Voice Memo as well as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF document viewer.
The pre-installed media player provides mobile entertainment, and can support MP4, H.264 and H.263 video files as well as MP3, WMA, WAV and eAAC+ audio files. The X5-01 also includes a stereo FM radio with RDS as well as 3.5 mm audio jack to connect headphones for private listening. Users can also download their favourite mobile phone games for after-work gaming entertainment.
The Nokia X5-01 comes with a BL-5F 950 mAh battery which can provide up to 3.5 hours of talk time on 3G, up to 16 days on standby and 24 hours of straight music playback. The handset is available in a variety of colours which include Yellow Green, Azure, Pink, Graphite Black and Purple.
