The Panasonic TX-P42V10 - One For Your Shortlist

The Panasonic TX-PV42V10 has a very slim design, as NeoPDP plasma panels offer a sleek, compact overall display. The widest portion of the Panasonic TX-P42V10 screen measures a mere 8. 5 cm. It begins at the top, measuring 5. 5 cm, and the chassis portion houses many design features.

Inside the Panasonic TX-P42V10 chassis itself, you'll find the connection ports, the internal speakers and the processing circuitry. The design itself is very slim, making efficient use of space, and quite impressive. Using the frameless design, there are silver strip accents across the top of the screen, buffed silver bottom, and a thin, pedestal stand for stability. The screen is a compact 42in, reducing energy consumption and overall weight.

In addition to the normal viewing methods you expect on an options screen (Normal, Game, Dynamic and Cinema), there is also a THX view option for a more solid clarity with the Panasonic TX-P42V10. This viewing option is wonderfully crisp, clear, detailed and of course conforms to the THX standard. There are four HDMI ports and an Ethernet cable for networking as well for an optimal viewing experience in many mediums.

There is also a SD card reader for reading multimedia files, tuners for analogue, as well as Freeview and Freesat, and a digital audio output. The remote that comes with the plasma is very neat and organized, for ease of options. Using Freesat, one can easily access free, high definition programs via a satellite service, and the Panasonic TX-P42V10 offers a fantastic display of these for users.

There are two functionalities with the Panasonic TX-P42V10 that are certainly worth mentioning. The Viera Tools and Viera Cast options have buttons to call them up via the remote control. Vieracast allows you to access internet content on your Panasonic TX-P42V10, using broadband internet connection. There have been whispers of more functionality to come, but currently, supported sites in this are Tagesschau, Picasa Web Albums, Youtube, Bloomberg, local weather, and Eurosport.

Using your SD card, or DivX files, you can easily access a direct playback option for use with AVC-HD. There is a media server function, which not only enables users to access the content from the sites listed, but to share it, as well. There is a reason that many have said that the Panasonic TX-P42V10 is the best "web TV" function to date.

Being able to watch videos called up from the network, or any of the sites available is made easier by being able to display them at full screen on the Panasonic TX-P42V10. Naturally, the quality is by and large dependent on the actual video, but this is one really useful option also. For those who are wondering about the gaming capabilities, with very little input lag and the screen being resistant to screen burn, this plasma gets high ratings. Being able to play games, network and display various media from one unit is certainly a benefit.

On the whole, the Panasonic TX-P42V10 shows to be a better way to HDTV plasma. There are many functions, clear sound, and a well defined, sharp and crisp picture. The design is slick, powerful and loaded with options. With the addition of THX mode, the additional ports and other benefits, this is a sound investment.
