The Popularity Of Jewellery Beads
Beads, throughout the course of history have never lost their appeal
. The history of beads goes back literally thousands of years, right back to the Ice Age so it has had a long, long time to test the theory out. If beads have not lost their charm in all these years, it seems unlikely they will ever do so.
In modern times beaded jewellery is popular for much the same reasons as all those years ago: beads make fantastic adornments that are so simple and yet can be stretch across the whole range of styles. They have the added advantage today of having even greater versatility and diversity. The range from which beads can be crafted has stretched now to include almost any material including, coral/seashells, gemstones, glass, rock crystal, gold, silver, stone and pearls. Children today often grow up learning how to dry out melon seeds, paint them and string them together to make necklaces which they often keep for years. Many junior and infant schools use beads as part of regular creative artistic activity for children. They can provide endless hours of fascination and fun for young minds. I am quite sure the adults derive a good deal of fun from them too.
Aside from melon seed, beads can be crafted out of plastic and many manufactured childrens toys are sold in sets with ready-made plastic beads for little ones to enjoy and make lots of bracelets and necklaces and ear rings from. Many a mum or dad or other adult has probably received one of these hand-made gifts from a child as a present for Christmas or birthday. In older times, beads often served as symbols of status, wealth and heritage.
Nowadays, beaded jewellery is more much representative of the unique style of the wearer. This may be in terms of fashion sense, colour preferences and even individual personality. Jewellery using beads can be custom made in almost any imaginable style, using any type of chain and combination or type of beads from any material. Beads from different materials can be mixed, matched and blended to make any number of interesting, innovative creations. This probably explains why beaded jewellery is just as popular today as it was in ancient Egyptian and Mesopotamian times, and probably more so.
Buying beads online is easy, which is something those ancient folk could never have dreamed of and eliminates the hassle of travelling from store to store, looking for the right beads.
