Every player has 16 pieces for him to play the game which comprise of two rooks, eight pawns, two knights, one king, two bishops, and one queen. Each player alternately takes turns in moving a single piece according to the movement rules except in castling where two pieces can move at the same time. It is a practice that the players with light colored pieces make the opening move and the corresponding piece can land on an empty square or on an enemy occupied provided that the piece can capture the opponents. The World Chess Federation has the task of maintaining the games rules and regulations.
