There are three general nursing careers: Certified Nurse Assistants, Licensed Practical Nurses and Registered Nurses. All require different levels of education and all provide substantially different annual salaries. The salary ranges for beginners (fresh out of school) in these nursing fields range from $25,000 to 46,000. I've compiled verifiable information from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and one of the most trusted salary search engines, Payscale.com to give you a better insight to a career in nursing.

Certified Nurse Assistant

Certified Nurse Assistants help Licensed Practical Nurses and also Registered Nurse with their jobs, in addition to helping patients bathe, eat, and get up and then back into bed. The Registered Nurse supervises both the Licensed Practical Nurse and the Certified Nurse Assistants. The responsibilities of the Registered Nurse are many and range from giving intravenous medications all the way up to helping doctors and other advanced practioners in medical procedures. The minimum education one can receive to become a Registered Nurse is 2 years of intense study to get an Associate Degree of Nursing. A Registered Nurse also pass the NCLEX-RN state board examination. The minimum salary for a Registered Nurse averages around $45,000, and goes up considerably from there.

However, Registered Nurses who go on to receive their Bachelors degree in Nursing are offered higher pay and are hired onto higher ranked Registered Nursing positions. The average annual salary of a Registered Nurse with less than one year of experience is approximately $46,000.
