The Return of Classical Homeschooling

Our nation's public school system is failing. The truth of this statement lies in the fact that US students have fallen behind in science and math internationally, hence the return of Classical Homeschooling. Parents from all walks of life are pulling their children out of public schools across this country choosing rather to teach them at home.

Classical Home school began in the Middle Ages as an approach to teach people how to learn for themselves. The brain develops through three stages, grammar, logic, and rhetoric. The five tools of learning are reason, record, research, relate and rhetoric. The child begins in the grammar stage where he is taught through listening, reading, writing and observation. Also during this time basic science is taught without abstracts.

The second stage is the logic/science of reasoning and usually begins during middle school years. At this time the child should be a critical thinker, he is given the tools needed to investigate the "whys" of the grammar stage. He will come to logical, valid, accurate, and truthful conclusions. The child will be able to dissect and examine information as an independent thinker.

The final stage or rhetoric stage begins during high school. At this time the child is able to merge the mechanics of study and thinking abilities into one. He will as an adult be able to take the information learned and apply it to life as well as translate it to others effectively.

Children taught in public schools are not taught to think; they regurgitate what has been given to them with no real knowledge of the subject matter. Public schools are systematically producing people who are not truly educated.

There are many home school programs available so do the research to find one that is suitable for your child/children's needs. The cost of curriculum and supplies can be costly; however, with a bit of planning and determination you can succeed. Also there are Home school parent groups available to encourage and give ideas to help you provide your child with a rich Classical Home scooling.html">Classical homeschooling equips the child with the necessary tools to learn and think independently and logically.
