The Risks of AutomationAutomation is one of the many good things that have been invented throughout the years due to the fact that it brings convenience and comfort to our lives. We can actually see automation almost everywhere we go. Although automation gives us the comfort and convenience that we enjoy today, there are also risks that come with it and one of which is when a certain automated system fails. One example is an automated teller machine or ATM as we know it more commonly. We all know that we can withdraw money anywhere there is an ATM. But what happens when it fails? If you are in a situation wherein you need to have cash and you cannot find a working ATM, it may bring you trouble.
Another instance is the automated air traffic control system. Airports use this to tell pilots if there are airplanes in their same route to avoid collisions or other accidents. In other words, air traffic control system helps us to be safe whenever we board a plane. But what do you think will happen if this particular system fails? Wouldn't it be disastrous?
This is why automated system needs to be maintained and monitored at all time (even though they are "automated") to ensure that they are doing what they were intended to do to provide comfort and convenience to us.
Automation is a good thing; do not be afraid to use it. But remember that you need to also be responsible whenever you are using an automated system so that you will put yourself in any trouble or danger. Using automated system, as mentioned, may bring a lot of advantages to us, but if it used in a wrong way, it could bring the other way around trouble instead of comfort.
