The Samsung Genio Slide offers a combination of touch screen technology along with a full Qwerty keyboard for efficient text entry
. Its key features include a built in digital camera, internet access and media player making it a versatile handset whilst remaining relatively affordable.
The Genio Slide measures 105x56.8x15.7mm and weighs in at 135 grams. Whist it may not be the lightest handset out there it certainly leaves no doubts about the build quality, in fact this is sure to appeal to some users. The 2.8 inch TFT resistive touch screen is capable of displaying up to 16 million colours at 240x320 pixels ensuring high quality display of on screen content. As mentioned, a full Qwerty keyboard slides out from behind the screen offering an alternative method of text entry. An Accelerometer sensor automatically rotates the on screen image according to the orientation of the phone, so it can be displayed in both portrait and landscape forms.
Users are alerted to incoming calls and messages by vibration and ringing with the option to customise their phone by downloading polyphonic ringtones and assign MP3 music files as ringtones. A speakerphone system is installed allowing hands free communication, whilst a 3.5mm audio jack accommodates hands free kits as well as headphones for listening to music.
An impressive variety of connectivity options allows users to stay connected on the move. The primary means of connection is via class 10 versions of both GPRS and EDGE. Where 3G coverage is available, HSDPA is available at speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps. If there is a wireless internet router in the same locality as the phone, an even faster internet connection can be achieved thanks to built in Wi-Fi connectivity. Bluetooth version 2.1 is installed as standard which offers a convenient means of sharing files and data with other compatible handsets in the same vicinity. GPS in included with A-GPS support allowing certain applications to function based on the location of the phone.
A digital camera boasting 3.15 MP is built in to the handset, which operates at a pixel resolution of 2048x1536 pixels. This features geo-tagging and smile detection so quality images can be taken with the minimum of effort. It has the capability to shoot video in QVGA quality at a rate of 15 frames per second as an alternative to taking still images.
A versatile media player supports a range of both music and video files. These can be transferred to and from a computer with ease by utilizing the micro USB (v2.0) port located on the handset. Additional entertainment options include stereo FM radio playback and a range of pre-installed games.
Extra applications include an organizer, office document viewer, voice memo/dial, and T9 predictive text input. It is easy to see the appeal of the Samsung Genio Slide, given its versatility and great everyday functionality.
