The Samsung Wave Is An Aesthetically Pleasing Handset

Samsung are back with their latest offering, the S8500 Wave

, with an expected release date in April 2010. This feature rich handset offers touch screen navigation, super fast internet access, and a 5MP camera.

The Samsung Wave is a super slim line handset at 10.9mm and is also surprisingly light weight given its long spec list. Weighing in at just 118 grams the handset is comfortable to hold and use. The super AMOLED capacitive touch screen measures a generous 3.3 inches and displays up to 16 million colours within pixels set at 480x800 for great quality display of on screen content.

To stay connected to networks in all but the most isolated regions, the Samsung Wave utilises a variety of connectivity features. In areas with little or no 3G coverage, this is primarily via class 10 EDGE and class 10 GPRS. In areas covered by 3G, HSDPA is available at speeds of up to 7.2Mbps. In areas covered by wireless internet routers, Wi-Fi connectivity allows a faster internet connection to be attained by utilising the signal provided by the routers.

Plenty of storage for files is available within the Samsung Wave. Internal memory is 2GB/8GB which allows plenty of data, such as media files, to be stored. Should additional storage space be required, a micro SD slot can be utilised by installing a memory card of up to 32 GB.

Users are alerted to calls and messages via a combination of both vibration and ringing. Users can assign their favourite song in MP3 format as ringtones, offering a level of customisation to be carried out. A speakerphone system is installed for hands free communication, and this features DNSe (Digital Natural Sound Engine) for excellent sound quality.

The Samsung Wave features an excellent built in media player. This supports most formats of both music and video files, so the handset doubles up as an effective portable media player, especially when a larger memory card is installed in the aforementioned micro SD slot. The addition of Google maps (based on GPS) is an interesting and impressive feature.

The built in digital camera has 5 mega pixels, so images of high quality can be taken. This includes such features as autofocus and LED flash, so the task of taking pictures is made simple and low light conditions are not necessarily a problem. As an alternative method of image capture, the handset can also shoot video at 30 frames per second.

With its impressively simplistic design, and impressive spec list, it would be a surprise if the Samsung Wave was not a popular handset upon its release.
