The Sony Ericsson Satio: A Class of Its Own by:Simon Drew
A couple of years ago people were already raving about their mobile phones' ability to take still photos
. In those days, a digital camera installed in a mobile phone was something that amazed the general public. How times have changed. With a mind-blowing 12-Megapixel built-in camera, the Sony Ericsson Satio is a game changer that will surely cause shock waves once it is released in September of this year. Heck, most commercial digital cameras aren't even this powerful. It's time to buckle in; the future has arrived.
12 is the Magic Number
The Satio's 12-Megapixel snapper is capable of shooting photos of up to 4000 x 3000 pixels in resolution. It also comes with not just one, but two light flashes - a xenon flash and a video LED flash. In terms of the interface, the Satio's camera is also very user-friendly. The easily accessible viewfinder mode provides users with five menu options - Auto mode, exposure compensation, flash settings, shoot mode, and scenes. The setting menu also gives users even more customization options to ensure that the photos they take are of the best quality. These include the self-timer, image stabilizer, effects, white balance, and focus mode.
The Satio's camera is also equipped with the common features found in most top of the line camera mobiles. Geo-tagging will allow users to label and tag their photos depending on where they were taken while the Touch capture feature will automatically focus on a specific subject in the frame when it is touched and capture a photo of it.
Video Capture
In terms of capturing videos, the Sony Ericsson Satio is capable of shooting VGA videos at an amazing 30fps. The videos produced are of the highest quality as it provides an excellent combination of precise colours, exceptional contrast, and resolved detail. Although it may not be up to par with the capabilities of the Samsung Omnia HD which is able to capture 720p high definition videos, the Satio is a close contender.
Other Features
Although it does have an outstanding camera, the Satio also has a lot of other non-multimedia related features on it. It sports the latest Smartphone technologies such as WLAN, 3G, EDGE, HSCSD, and GPRS data connectivity. It will also be using a 600 MHz AR Cortex-A8 processor with 3D graphics HW accelerator to run its Symbian S60 operating system. Also on board is a GPS receiver with A-GPS support as well as full e-mail and instant messaging capabilities.
