The Sony Ericsson Zylo Is An Appealing Music Phone by:Chris westley

Having recently been busy with the release of a number of new Smartphones

, Sony Ericsson has decided to turn its attention once again to its range of Walkman slider phones. Along with the Spiro, the Sony Ericsson Zylo is due for release shortly and features some impressive music playback features.

In order to store music files and other data, 260 MB of internal storage is provided as standard along with a micro SD card slot. A micro SD slot can be utilised by installing a memory card of up to 16 GB which is sure to prove ample for the needs of most users as it is capable of storing an entire digital music collection. The internal phonebook can store up to 2000 entries and includes the Photocall feature. This allows a photo to be assigned to or contact saved in the phonebook, and this is in turn displayed on screen whenever that person is in touch.

The TFT screen measures 2.6 inches and can display up to 256K colours within a pixel layout of 240x 320 which makes it perfectly setup for viewing photos and video files. The screen is manufactured from scratch-resistant materials which protects it from everyday wear and tear such as being dropped which is a nightmare scenario which many mobile phone users are familiar with. An accelerometer sensor is built into the screen which, dependent upon the orientation of the phone, automatically rotates the screen so that its content can be viewed in both portrait and landscape forms.

Upon its upcoming release, Sony Ericsson planned for the Zylo to be available in several different colour variants including jazz black, chacha silver and swing pink. Therefore, the style conscious users who view their phone as a fashion statement are catered for. As slider phones do, the Sony Ericsson Zylo is aesthetically pleasing with rounded edges and a chunky appearance.

The Zylo features a 3.15 mega pixel camera which, thanks to its high pixel resolution, produces excellent quality still images as well as the ability to shoot video as an alternative method of image capture. Geo-tagging is also provided as part of the cameras software package which automatically records the location at which a photo was taken.

Entertainment wise, the Sony Ericsson Zylo delivers on a number of fronts. The versatile internal media player features Walkman Technology and supports many different formats of both music and video files. A stereo FM radio player and a number of pre-installed games (along with access to a library of downloadable games) are available and some of the games are motion based which takes advantage of the accelerometer sensor. Social networking fans are also catered for with Facebook and twitter applications offering direct access to these popular sites meaning users can share their thoughts with friends and family with the minimum of fuss.

A number of different connectivity features are employed by the Sony Ericsson Zylo to stay connected to both cellular networks and the Internet. Class 10 versions of GPRS & EDGE provide the primary means of network connectivity whilst access to the Internet relies on 3G coverage whereby an HSDPA connection is available at speeds of up to 7.2 mega bytes per second (along with HSUPA at 2 MB per second).

Both the appearance and the features of the Sony Ericsson Zylo are sure to please many users, and whilst it may not offer Smartphone Technology, it ticks all the boxes in terms of entertainment and aesthetic appeal.
