. Losing sleep is also something that new parents have to cope with. Luckily, there a several different options available to new parents that will help them to get as much sleep as they can. With a new baby you will never get an over abundance of sleep, but with these tips you will at least be able to focus on your lovely little baby.

Tag Team The Jobs

When the baby cries in the night both parents will usually wake up even if only one parent goes to the baby. Though in the first few months both parents will get up and check on the baby when it cries. This leads to both parents losing sleep. The best way to combat this is for mom and dad to come up with a plan of who will get up to see to the baby. Alternating between parents is the best way of making sure that everyone gets a little extra sleep.

Take Cat Naps


If you are looking after your child when it takes a nap then it is a good idea for you to take a nap as well. This means you can catch up on some sleep. It doesn't matter if your baby naps in the morning, afternoon or early evening you should get as much sleep as you can because you never know when they will wake up.

Lots of times new parents are besieged with offers of help from their friends and families. So when you are really desperate for some sleep it is okay to accept some help and get few solid hours of sleep. Your mom looking after your baby for just a few hours will give you lots of time to catch up on some sleep.

New Parents should not allow their baby to share the bed with them and instead insist that their baby sleeps in their own room. It is very tempting to allow your baby to share your bed with you but this is unhealthy for all of you. So it is best for you to put you baby down in their own bed in their own room. This will mean that you don't wake up the other parent as you get up to comfort the baby.

The Power Of The Late Night Feeding

If baby has been asleep for a few hours and it is coming close to 11pm then you might want to wake your baby up for a feed before you go to bed. most babies wake in the night because they are hungry so feeding them last thing before you go to sleep will ensure that they sleep until early morning. This will give you several solid hours of sleep, albeit not as much as you would prefer.
