The Toyota Corolla Takes Over Africa

If all the cars of the world, from brand new to used to sadly defunct

, are grouped according to make and model and piled one on top of the other, one car will rise above all: the Toyota Corolla. More are being sold by the minute in both brand-new and used-car markets. No surprises there; the Corolla has been selling like pancakes around the world ever since it was first launched in Japan in 1966.

The only other car to reach the high heavens in terms of units sold is the Volkswagen Beetle. The Beetle stack was overshadowed by Corollas pile in 1997. With more than 30 million units manufactured and sold worldwide, the Corolla has become known as the twenty-first centurys global standard vehicle. The humble family car of the Sixties has definitely come a long way since its first foray into the automotive market. Because of the Corollas affordability, fuel efficiency, and reliability, the car is in high demand around the world.

The Toyota Corolla is a big hit in America, topping sales year after year. Statistics also show that of all the Corollas sold in a twenty-year period, eighty percent are still up and running in the United States. That covers all of the Corolla linesit seems that every year, Toyota comes up with a new range of the Corolla, improving the cars engine performance, design, mechanics, and fuel efficiency. How does the Corolla fare in the sunny continent?

The answer: astoundingly well. It figures prominently in the top ten list of used cars in twenty African countries, according to the offers documented by tradecarview, Japans largest online used-car marketplace.

The Corolla station wagon Fielder ranks at the top of Kenyas most-wanted vehicles. Toyota seems to be the favorite in Zambia: three of its models are the top cars with the most offers. The Corolla sedan is number one on Zambias roads; following it closely is another Corolla model, the minivan Spacio. Another member of the Toyota family makes the top three in Zambia: the compact hatchback Toyota Vitz.

The Toyota Corolla sedan is also very popular in Botswana and Namibia, where it ranks second. Mozambique is another Toyota land: the Vitz is at the top spot, followed by the Corolla sedan at second and by the Corolla Runx at third. Mauritius is a big Toyota fan as well, with the Vitz at first place and the Corolla Axio at second. The Spacio is a popular choice in Burundi and Uganda, where it is at third and fifth, respectively. The demand for Toyota Corolla sedans extends to Ethiopia and Swaziland (third), to Burundi and Cameroon (fourth), to Ghana and Nigeria (fifth). The Corolla sedan is the seventh-most popular car in Senegal and Zimbabwe, while it is the eighth in Benin and ninth in South Africa.

The Corolla seems to be taking over Africaand why not? With its efficiency and reliability to perform its best in all weather conditions, the Toyota Corolla is truly a fitting ride for Africans looking for durability, comfort, and of course, safety for the whole family.
