However, the unit is appropriate for use by people who never travel outside of the United States, too. In addition, you can buy additional maps that take you to many places in the world and numerous accessories for your GPS. So what exactly is everything going to set you back?

For starters, the Garmin Nuvi 1350 has a suggested retail price of $299.99. If you want to add an extended warranty, it will cost an additional $54.99 for a 3-year extension. I've never been much for buying extended warranties, because I always figure that the company will offer extensions for only as long as they think the products will stay in good shape. After that, you're on your own, anyway. However, the choice to buy one to go with your Nuvi 1350 is certainly yours to make.

If you want a different type of mount than what comes with the unit, you'll have to pay around $40. These mounts you purchase separately hold your Garmin Nuvi 1350 securely on the dash instead of leaving it dangling from a suction cup on your windshield. A power cord will cost $23.42, and an AC/DC adaptor runs $25. If you want your GPS to run longer than the 4-hour life of the battery, you're going to need one of these, too. A carrying case for when you use your Nuvi 1350 when walking or riding public transit has a suggested retail price of $17.99.

Let's say you want maps of different countries other than the U.S. and Canada. You need to be prepared to pay a hefty sum for them. For example, purchasing the software for maps of Mexico will cost another $100. Europe will set you back $150. If you're a world traveler, you can see that adding maps can cost you a great deal of money.

By my calculations, you're now at well over $500 for your $300 Garmin Nuvi 1350. Keep this in mind when you go out to shop for any GPS system. The basic unit is never going to be all-inclusive, and the hidden extras need to be considered when you're figuring prices.
