The Truly Unique Isles In Scotland

An island is a piece of land surrounded by water

. There are numerous islands and isles around Scotland. Of the eight hundred islands approximately that Scotland has almost a hundred of them are inhabited by human beings.

These islands can be divided along many lines and characteristics. The most common grouping is that of: Shetland, Orkney, and Hebrides. Hebrides are further divided into Outer Hebrides and Inner Hebrides.

Shetland gives one the feeling that he is in Norway while being in Scotland; it's a natural blend of two places. The landscape and breathtaking views is highly exciting. There are farmlands that are pretty fertile as well as cliffs that border the sea and craggy rocks and rough beaches.

Orkney is a truly surprising spot in Scotland. It is immersed deep in past and history. The 70 or so isles in this region are exotic.

There are almost 200 isles in the region of Outer Hebrides. Known as the western isles, they have a stretch of about one thirty miles. The natural landscape is bordered by golden sands and beaches and filled in by harsh mountainous regions.

Inner Hebrides lie to the South East of Outer Hebrides. They are sub divided in to the Northern and Southern zones. They cover an area of four thousand square kilometres approximately.

So far we have an idea Scotland is not just about islands. Apart from islands and archipelago Scotland is commonly characterised by Highlands. It truly lives up to its post card image of scenic beauty in tall and towering majestic mountains.

The most amazing thing about Scotland is that you will never get bored by one monotonous landscape. The scenery changes as you travel further and further into Scotland; right from the sandy dunes and beaches to the harsh mountainous areas and from the breath taking peaks in Highlands to the towns in the vibrant colours of the cities by its people and places. It is all firmly fitted into one piece of land called Scotland.
