The Urgent World Energy Crisis

We are on a critical time, as we are faced with a severe energy crisis

. The demand of energy is continually increasing and the supply is struggling to keep up with the pace. While we do know that energy supply is limited, oftentimes we still take it lightly.

Yet, we have not taken enough precautions to deal with a possible energy crisis. When I say we, I am not referring to the governments but to all of us, the common people.

If you have listened to news, oil and gas prices are sky high. This cause us to wonder why many people still think that the energy crisis is a myth.

They fail to see the big picture. There have been three major energy crises so far " the 1973 oil crisis, the 1979 energy crisis, and the 1990 oil-price hike, apart from several regional crisis.

One can observe the rapid increase of the prices of the current energy sources. With the demand greater than the supply, the price increase should not be a surprise.

Until when will this last?

You may still be asking if the energy crisis is really for real. Now here is a fact: fifty percent of the available oil are depleted. And considering the rate we are consuming it, it will all be gone in 32 years time. Now, how about if we consider the possibility of an increase in the rate of consumption?

Statistics will show that the consumption rate will increase. What does this mean? It means that generations to come will still experience the energy crisis experienced today.

What are the actions taken to address this?

If such energy crisis become worse, can we tackle it effectively? Are there things we can do to at least remedy the situation? We should first understand the importance of energy to mankind. We at least will be able to give it its due value. We can then make efforts to conserve on energy.

Wasting energy will make matters worse. Information drive should be done so that everyone will be aware of the energy crisis, and so that each can contribute to conserving energy resources. One can help by putting off power when appliances are not in use, switching off car engines when on idle, and joining in car pools.

Are there alternative energy sources?

As responsible caretakers of our world, we should consider using alternative sources of energy as solar and wind energy. Such are effective and efficient for our use. We are sure to save on power bills, and most importantly, we help save the world.
