I'll give everything a go, call me a Do-it-yourself fiend but I've adopted a "I can

do anything" philosophy to most areas of my life and roughly speaking this has proven to serve me incredibly well. I've saved thousands of pounds and days worth of time along with being rewarded with a rather sanctimonious feeling of self worth too.

When modernizing a semi dilapidated house a few years ago I decided to utilize this "give it a go" outlook and swiftly learned how to do simple wiring, plumbing, decorating and even building. There's no doubt that I saved a small fortune by executing some of these basics myself but when it came down to certain more qualified jobs, I called in a tradesman. The rationale why are obvious. Firstly it would take me years of tutoring and work experience just to master their meticulous craft, then I would have to splurge hundreds if not thousands of pounds in specialist tools and equipment, next it would take me days to do a job that'd take a professional tradesman just a few hours to finish and ultimately and most significant of all was quality of the completed job, not only do I not want my house falling down as a result of a half-assed knock through but also it's got to look good in order to eventually sell the house on and make a profit!

Well I'm no tradesman, I can't confess to be an expert plumber, plasterer or electrician but I have been a working photographer now for over 14 years and believe that the very same principles apply in deciding whether or not to invest incommission a photographer.

Professional photographers are so pricey to employ so why should you bother breaking the bank when you could just set up your product on a tough table, acquire a couple of desk lamps and get shooting with your new 600 mpixel compact camera? Clearly the money conserved could go towards obtaining that new web site you've been promising yourself? Well as you will probably figure I disagree, I wouldn't make a terrific photographer if I can't even warrant my own existence!

If you simply need to clear out your shed of a few old belongings and therefore simply need a speedy snap of the item for your ebay listing then yeah proceed and fire up the dependable Pentax. Surely Joe Bloggs down the road couldn't give a hoot about your shoddy photographs and is just seeking to pick up bargain, right? I'm not recommending that you start employing a professional photographer just to sell your old junk on ebay but with any luck this illustrates a principle which is in essence the same in all kinds of business; if your competitors website has high quality photographs but yours has half-baked ones and your prices match... you can guess the rest. Don't be tricked into thinking this is all about your short term sales, it's actually just a modest part of a much larger picture, your brand. Would you opt to be perceived by your potential or future customers as amateurish, slap dash and cheap or professional, slick and elite?

Sure there are all the expected reasons why you should hire a professional photographer, yeah we've undertaken years of training or work experience, yup our kit bags are stuffed full with painfully expensive equipment, oh and lets not disregard our wonderful eye for a funky composition etc etc however the real reason I think you should at least contemplate calling in a expert is that in todays crowded market place it's become even more critical than ever to stand out from the crowd, celebrate you individuality and exude brand quality.
