Electricians have a tough job - one mistake and it could become fatal - either for himself or someone else. This is why, you should choose this job only if you feel that you have a certain aptitude for it and if this line of job interests you.

The first step towards becoming an electrician should begin very early into your life - while you are high school. It is important that you have good credits in English and Math in school. The former is important so that you can read and understand the electrical manuals correctly.

An aptitude for science and mathematics is important as it will help you to understand the various technologies as well as calculations that are related to this job. In addition, you can take extra classes on applied physics and math, if you want. Once you are done with your high school graduation, you can begin the training to become an electrician, if you are more than 18 years of age.

Safety measures

While in the job, you should take adequate safety measures, as the job can get quite risky. You should wear proper work gear. Use non conductors of electricity like rubber hat, rubber shoes, rubber gloves etc. Wear tight clothes and make sure that there is no metal on them, as metals are good conductors of electricity.

Training schools

There are numerous training schools for electricians all over the country. You should choose one that best suits your requirements - be it course and specialization requirement or financial. You also need to consider the location of the institution and the financial expenditure that you might have to incur for traveling or living.

Join a reputed school for completing your course. You can also join the State Sponsored Electrician Training Centers or the Union Trade Schools for your training.

On-job training

If you do not want to take classes for becoming an electrician, you can train under a professional and licensed electrician. You will get both theoretical, as well as practical training. Your physical fitness will also be tested and once you prove yourself during the training, you will be ready to become a professional electrician, with a certificate.

Having a license is very important in this job, as you will often be asked for it by your employers. Becoming an electrician can be quite easy, as long as you have the aptitude for the job.
