The World Tefl Accrediting Commission Establishes Teaching Standards
Quite a few people are under the wrong impression that if they are fluent in the
English language that they are also certified and knowledgeable enough in the language to teach it to someone else as their second language. This is most certainly not possible despite peoples conceptions. English is one of the most complicated languages on the planet. Teaching it to other people requires more than just being able to speak it. So, those that want to learn how to teach English to others need to go to the World TEFL Accrediting Commission to get the proper training.
The World TEFL Accrediting Commission became concerned many times over that many institutions and programs are offering people the ability to learn the skills needed for teaching other English as a second language but that most these programs actually fall short and dont deliver what they promise. People can end up with a certification but not the practical skills to really get the job done. In fact, some of these people cannot even get a new job with their TEFL certification because they are so poorly skilled. Since this has become more and more of an issue with the increased usage of the internet, the World TEFL Accrediting Commission decided to come up with a set of standards and a list of skills that must be adhered to so that everyone with the TEFL certification can be hired to teach English as a second language in other countries and do their jobs very well.
One of the standards they set in teaching is that the course offering must include practice into the course for the students seeking their certification and it must be a larger part of the instruction time, not just a minor part. This is more than helpful because it makes sure the students actually practices what they will be teaching per say. Some people cannot teach based on what they learn in a book. They must practice their people skills and the interactions necessary to warrant being an effect teacher, especially one from the World TEFL Accrediting Commission. Another standard is that the class taught to those getting their certification must have a minimum of three years real experience teaching English as a second language. The third is that the school providing the instruction must follow a solid plan of methodology and lesson plans. Having all of these standards followed that were set by the World TEFL Accrediting Commission will ensure that people getting their TEFL certification are getting what they are paying for and will have the ability and skills required for job placement when they are finished with their courses.
