The "Reciprocal" Will
Awill is where you can state who you want to be the heir/s to your property, and how you want it to be distributed between them. A "reciprocal" will simply means that each spouse's will is intended to mirror each other; basically, they have almost the same content.
First of all, an Executor of the will can be named. He/she is named such because he/she will be responsible for acting upon your will and handling affairs related to it. Your spouse can be the one you want to choose, and if you are not married, a friend or relative can be the Executor. However, it is always wise to name an alternate just in case something happens and affects the original decisions.
The estate and property are not the only things that can be named in the will as the ones to be inherited; specific bequests are, too. You can choose specific objects in your possession and choose specific people to whom these will be given after your death. Whatever remains of your property that hasn't been mentioned in the will usually go to the surviving spouse or to the children. And in case you still have debts or unpaid taxes, the estate can cover these through the will as well.
The couple having children almost always makes the situation more complicated. Parents are advised to have extensive planning beforehand should they die early how they want their children to be raised, who they want to be guardians of their kids, how their children will be supported financially. There are also cases of either or both of the parents having children from previous marriages, and this is where, obviously, the couple has different statements in their wills, not mirror images of the other. The order of death, as determined by the Uniform Simultaneous Death Act, can also affect the terms of the will and how it is interpreted by the court.
