The "Ultimate" I-Pad esque 2.0 next generation device

Apple has done it again with the new I-pad device. I admit, being a gadget phreak I had a budding curiosity and I was caught up in the hype of this new device. Record sales will probably drown out my comments, but, you are bored and I am going to give you my two cents regardless.

When I first held the I-pad my first reaction was, this is small. Now, some folks like small and compact and it is very portable and can fit in a backpack or travel bag. But I was really hoping for more screen size. I believe the approximate dimensions to be that of 8" x 11". I was hoping for maybe 12" x 15". I have fat fingers, not disgustingly fat, but I do not like tiny keyboards. I like to spread out my phalanges when I type and I prefer plenty of room. But that's me. Then I looked all over the device for a 10/100 ETHERNET PORT. No ethernet port? Gee whiz! You really are forced to use the ATT network. All 2.0 devices should have an ethernet port and then someone can make a mint selling plastic stands for the I-pad. Maybe even the ability for an external keyboard so that the I-pad takes on the role of a monitor.

One of the major disappointments for myself with I-tunes, the I-pod and this device are the lack of tethering options. You would think with all the brainiacs at Apple that this would warrant it's own department: Tethering Gods or something of that ilk. The ability to freely share the data and libraries across I-tunes, I-pad and I-pod would be fantastic and IMHO should have been implemented from the onset. While I go off on a tangent not limited to I-pad but including I-tunes, Apple should have the most extensive album artwork and cross reference of digital art and song information on the planet. I wouldn't mind paying a fee to search for obscure album info and artwork. I would also think this could be another department within Apple. I know that it would be near impossible to capture every single song out there.... maybe have a way for independent artists to upload their information to the Apple database. ?

back to I-pad-

Does it really have to have a phone? No. A camera? Maybe, but even with the 8 x 11 dimensions, photo taking would be awkward at best. It really is a novelty device and since I am broke like 652,000 other Americans, paying for two outrageously overpriced internet connections from ATT seems like a stretch. I am positive this device is already obsolete, feel free to mark my words, this device will dramatically fall in price as 2.0 rolls out, there are already rumors for more widgets and gadgets floating around and command spaces left open that I do not need to go into here. Finally, it will be great to see what Apple and it's competitors roll out in future offerings for this new category of devices. I would like to see better usage and functionality as a monitor with peripherals. I know, I am a demanding little consumer!

food for thought.
