Buying, owning and maintaining a house is no where near as easy or as cheap as it should be

. As if buying the initial house wasn't expensive enough, there are many other costs that we have to pay throughout the year. However, when you start to add in all the additional things that most of us need then the monthly price begins to rocket. The additional things that most of us want include TV license, gas bills, electric bills, water bills and all manner of insurances to keep us protected in the event of a disaster.

Unfortunately, disasters happen. There are always stories in the news of house fires, floods and even structural damage. Fortunately, insurance is there to cover us in the most extreme situations. If you're unlucky enough to be a victim of any household disaster, then insurance should pay out for any repairs that are needed as a result.

On a minor level, smaller household disasters can usually be dealt with by yourself. If you claim for every small household incident on your insurance, then you'll not only have to pay an excess but you're also likely to find that your monthly premiums increase as well.
