The iPhone 4 is finally here. And it seems the hype surrounding the long awaited handset is justified thanks to a new design, excellent features and the new version 4 operating system, making multi tasking facilities a breeze.

Putting the design aspect of the phone to one side, one of the stand out features of this new model is the fantastic new display which offers four times the image and text quality of the previous model, the 3GS. Named the "Retina" display as it is reported that the screen shows more pixels than the human eye can actually see itself, the resolution is a staggering 960 x 640 pixels, streets ahead of other handsets currently available. The iPhone 4 boasts 78% of the pixels offered on the iPad, and that unit has a ten inch screen. This gives you an idea of just how crisp images will look, and anybody who has seen the iPad will undoubtedly acknowledge just how great the screen is, with even small text maintaining clarity when zoomed in. 326 pixels per square inch are offered with an 800:1 contrast ratio which puts some HD televisions to shame. The overall dimensions of the phone are 115.2 x 58.6 x 9.3mm, shaving size off the depth and width from the 3GS. Part of this is attributed to the fact that the impressive looking steel strip that is sandwiched between the front and rear of the unit acts as the antenna. Despite the reported reception difficulties that this poses, it is easily overcome by the addition of a bumper. These are produced by Apple and come in 6 different colours, and not only aid reception but also protect the phone if it is dropped.

Connectivity features are superb on the iPhone 4. Users can constantly keep in touch whilst on the move thanks to 3G, GSM and EDGE, These not only allow you to connect to the internet but also aid features such as E Mail notifications in real time, saving you having to log in to check your inbox. The new software also allows for a unified inbox, meaning several e mail accounts can be linked and incoming mail displayed in a single and easy to read inbox. When at home, work or in range of a public WiFi hotspot as is found in many bars and restaurants, the phone offers WiFi for the ultimate browsing experience. This feature is also essential for the new FaceTime concept. FaceTime is Apples slant on video calling, but rather than relying upon the 3G network, along with stuttering sound and jumpy images, this new system utilises WiFi. It does require both users to have an iPhone 4, but offers superb quality and at no cost thanks to using the internet rather than a cellular network. The iPhone for has already made a huge impact since its release on the 24th of June, and it is clear to see why thanks to great design, superb yet functional features and an all together desirable and comprehensive phone package.
