The kitchen is then focal point every house and you probably spend more time in it than any other room.

Kitchens will always be the most expensive room in the house to remodel. The price of replacing your kitchen will vary quite dramatically depending on the size of your room and the number of cabinets you need. It doesn't have to be this way and not many people realise that it doesn't have to be expensive. By simply changing your cabinet doors and handles you can transform your kitchen. And you can do it one day and save yourself thousands.

1. Using a screwdriver remove your old kitchen door. Starting at the bottom unscrew the hinges and make your way up. Making sure you are always keeping hold of the old door.

2. The next stage is to attach your old hinges to the new door. Before you do you will notice the hinges are made of two parts? Using a thin screwdriver separate the hinge by unclipping the centre piece. You will now be left with a part that attaches to the door and another that is screwed to the cabinet.

3. Before you continue any further put a cloth sheet or a sheet of cardboard on work surface to protect your new kitchen doors.

3. Lay your new door face down on your work surface. Before you insert your hinges add a small amount of wood glue in the routed hole. Most replacement kitchen doors will already have pre-routed holes with the right spacing for your hinges. It is advisable to get your doors pre-routed; it will save hours of work and give a professional finish. Now insert your hinges and screw them securely in place.

3. Now that your hinges have been secured it's time to get your cabinets ready. Screw the remaining parts of your hinges on to your cabinet using the pre-drilled holes. You don't need to glue these.

4. Lift your new door into position and working from the top down start clipping the door hinges to cabinet.

5. The final and most important step is to adjust your newly fitted door so that it sits flush and opens correctly. Kitchen door hinges have elongated holes, which allow for large adjustments. Using a screw driver slowly adjust the door until you are happy with its appearance.

Fitting replacement kitchen doors is one of the easiest home DIY jobs and doesn't involve any specialist tools. Depending on the size of your kitchen you should be able to do it in one day. Remember to always follow the door manufacturer's instructions.
