Diamond rings have become more popular over the last few years

A Flemish polisher called Louise van Berquem from Belgium born in 1458 created the first 137 carat Florentine diamond for a well known wealthy family.

To help him create finer pieces of jewellery, Louise van Berquem invented a polishing wheel which enabled him to cut diamonds with accurate high grade facets.

The result was more techniques being introduced to show off the splendid cuts of diamonds, and some of these cuts' are still used today.
