There is No Quick Fix!

I just read a really startling fact today that I'd like to share..

Did you know that The Average American Eats 14 pounds of chemicals each year! Two of those pounds are made up of pesticides and herbicides!

UGH!! That means I have eaten an average of 714 pounds of chemicals, contaminants, herbicides and pesticides in my life, and I'm not done yet!

My children have eaten 336 pounds, 308 pounds and 266 pounds of chemicals, contaminants, herbicides and pesticides respectively... You do the math, what are your families totals?

I always thought I fed my family well. I never cooked "from a box," I only used fresh ingredients and didn't cave into the "you don't love me if you don't buy me Twinkies" syndrome. My children drank water, low fat milk and unsweetened fruit juice. We used whole grain bread and pasta and the fruit bowl was always filled to the brim. Yet somehow those chemical additives, pesticides and herbicides managed to sneak their way into my babies systems.

Those chemical additives are every where! I sure wish I knew the above fact 25 years ago! Since then I have learned to READ INGREDIENT LABELS. If the list of ingredients doesn't sound like the food it is supposed to be, I put it back. If it contains hydrogenated oil..I carefully put it down and step away from the box, this way no one gets hurt! I do the same for artificial food colorings, flavorings and high fructose corn syrup. Reading ingredient labels is very important, manufacturers will say just about anything they can get away with just to get you to purchase their items. Don't judge a product by it's packaging...read the ingredients list!

I am middle aged and getting older by the minute.That's not a bad thing, it just is. I intend to mature beautifully and die young at an old age! My best defense against the chronic conditions that are now starting to plague my friends and neighbors is a good offense. We have been adding more fresh RAW fruits and vegetables to our diet. Some days are better than others. To be sure we are getting enough fruits and vegetables our entire family also eats Juice Plus every day. There is no quick fix but good health starts with good nutrition.
