Things To Remember Before Moving House

If you are moving to Florida, no doubt you cannot wait to get to the Sunshine State and take advantage of the hot weather and great beaches

. First, you will have the practical aspects of moving house to deal with. It is a good idea to make yourself a list of what you need to do so that you can be organized ahead of your moving day and hopefully keep stress to a minimum! For example, before you move you will have to arrange connection of services, like electricity, gas and phone and obtain quotes for home insurance in Florida.

If you are sticking to your current utility company, they will be able to arrange a transfer of your account to your new address in Florida, and take care of the reconnection for you. If you are changing providers, make sure they have all the personal information they need to set up your new account. Arrange for your services to be connected the day before you move into the property so that it is all taken care of before you arrive. If access to the house is required, ask your realtor to assist.

You may have more than home insurance in Florida to arrange; if you have other insurance policies, such as car insurance or pet insurance, you will need to let the insurance companies have your new address details. Be aware that living in Florida may affect the amount you pay; your premiums could go up or down depending on where you have moved from.

Other things you may want to do before your move are backing up your computer's hard drive, notifying your bank, cell phone company etc of your new address and researching doctors and dentists available in your new town. You may want to research childcare facilities and other services in the area; it is really helpful to know in advance, where the nearest hospital, petrol station and supermarket is. If you have kids, you will want to arrange for their education records to be transferred to their new school, and confirm arrangements for their start date. Apart from school records, make sure you have your family's medical, dental and veterinary records in a safe place.

Moving homes is considered to be one of the most stressful events people go through. There is so much to organize and potential for things to go wrong. While you cannot guarantee that everything will go perfectly to plan, by being organized well in advance you can at least help to reduce some of the pressure. Ask friends and family to help with small tasks if you start to feel overwhelmed. Even having someone there to help you pack up a few boxes can make a big difference.
