Things To Think About When Buying Electric Horse Fencing

Purchasing and maintaining horses involves a huge investment

. The horses must be protected and discouraged from running away from the stable and fenced in area. One has to ensure that the paddock or stable area is properly fenced. While fencing the required area, you have to consider various points. If the fence is a wooden one, the horses are certain to push against them and can even knock them down. They may even try to jump over them. When it comes to the use and installation of electric horse fences, though they may try to jump over them, they will find that they receive a slight shock for doing so. The horses and other livestock will then come to know that they cannot jump over the fence, for it is fairly certain that they will be shocked.

There are number of fencing materials that will be required. They include reelers, posts, wire, testing equipment, gates and various other accessories. Even solar energy generated fences are available that are eco-friendly and at the same time cost effective. You can hire people who have experience and the professional ability to do this job the right way.

Presently, electric horse fences are becoming more popular, and this is due to an increased awareness of the harmless nature of such fences. In the past people have avoided this type of fencing as they believed it to be cruel to the animals, however, this belief is slowly fading and is being replaced with a more positive attitude towards effective fencing and safety of the animals. As long as proper precautions and maintenance guidelines are observed, there is no risk of any injury or damage to the horses and the horses will be safeguarded from escaping.

Before putting up the electric fence, the following points have to be considered:

All the rods and poles have to be grounded in damp earth because dry grounds may lead to fencing and wiring problems.

The horse fence has to be checked regularly, particularly when it is woven.

The wire conductors have to be constantly checked because the wind movements may cause the wires to break.

It is better to use a braided electric rope which has a large diameter and is strong, highly visible and durable.

Secure your fence with two layers of wiring and pass the current only through the second layer.

Always use voltage regulators that can effectively regulate the voltage and will also indicate any changes in the voltage.

Keep the water troughs away from the fencing so that the horses are not electrocuted when they go to drink water.

All the chargers and energisers have to be UL approved.

Do not use high tensile wirings because they are very thin and the horses cannot see them clearly. They can also cut the horse's skin, if in fact they do try to jump over.

The height of the fence must be such that the horse cannot jump over, as this will lessen the chance of injury. You can take the height of your tallest horse's nose as a guide for the correct height of the fence.

You can use plastic coated wire, galvanised wire, half inch or 1 and half inch electric poly-tape for wiring your fence.

Safety of the horses should be the top priority when it comes to electric horse fences.
